Developing Emerging Health Care Leaders through our Internship Program!

We are proud to announce that Pathway Health is partnering with the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire to help grow and mentor future business leaders in the health care industry through our new internship positions! In these positions, interns are exposed to the long-term care, senior housing, assisted living, home care and hospice industries. They will gain insight into the trends, struggles and rewards in the industries, while gaining hands-on experience in business development and marketing strategy with our Executive Team.

Jennifer Karnopp

My name is Jenny Karnopp. I am originally from Green Bay and attend school at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. I will graduate Magna Cum Laude this December with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Marketing.

What are skills have you learned in your college courses that you are applying as an intern?

The knowledge that I gained in my business writing, business communications, sales and promotions courses at UWEC have helped me immensely in this internship.

What are the top three things you have learned as an intern that will help you upon graduation?

This internship with Pathway has taught me about the internal and external communications of an organization, the development of a marketing and communications campaign, how to construct effective and engaging emails and social media posts, and has helped me learn more about the ever changing health care industry.

What are your career goals when you graduate?

Upon graduation I would like to pursue a job in marketing analytics or promotions.

Katelyn Mrozek

My name is Katelyn Mrozek and I am going to be a junior this fall at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. I am majoring in Health Care administration, and I am ecstatic to gain experiences in long term care outside of classes. I am the current President of the Eau Claire student chapter of the American College of Health Care Administrators. I have enjoyed becoming more involved with this academic program and working closely with Dr. Olson on his sabbatical project. Aside from health care activities, I run track and field at UW – Eau Claire, and actively volunteer with the boys and girls club. I am very dedicated and eager to learn as much as possible about a future in long term care and I look forward to working with Pathway Health!

What are skills have you learned in your college courses that you are applying as an intern?

Some skills I have learned in my college courses that I am applying as an intern is business writing skills. I learned how to write up business reports successfully. I also am using my research skills gained from working with my professor. I also learned a lot about regulations and reimbursement in my Policies course. This applies to the work I do as an intern to better help me decide on grants that would help clients purchase Pathway services.

What are the top three things you have learned as an intern that will help you upon graduation?

As an intern, I have learned thus far the importance of funding for facilities. I have also learned by observing conversations that in the post-acute care field, you need to stay current on the ever-changing regulations. Another really important thing I have learned as an intern is that your voice matters no matter how much experience you have to offer.

What are your career goals when you graduate?

After I graduate, I plan on getting my Nursing Home Administrator license and work in a facility. Eventually, I would like to obtain my master’s in business administration with an emphasis in health care management. My end result would be to eventually get my doctorate in gerontology and then go on to be a professor for a health care administration program.

Both of our interns have excelled in the program, and will be great assets to the health care industry! We are excited to continue developing emerging leaders in the industry through our internship positions.
