Every Day Is a Chance to Learn from the World’s Classroom

In my three decades working with health care operations, I have dedicated much of my leadership to creating and growing organizations. Although the goal is to gain the organization a reputation for excellence and strong market position, the real work is developing and strengthening each member of the operational, clinical or leadership teams, to further their skills and knowledge.

“Education doesn’t just take place in stuffy classrooms and university buildings, it can happen everywhere, every day to every person.” — Sir Richard Branson

Big learning moments do not Debby Classroomhappen behind a desk. The most important lessons are real-world instruction that can be experienced. As leaders, we must embrace this type of learning environment as the best method to remove any assumptions, and tackle a challenge as a skills-building exercise.

The post-acute industry requires a commitment to life-long learning, which can feel daunting or intimidating at times. As leaders in this field, it is important to embrace that we are all students and we are all teachers at different points in our career. If you treat the world as your classroom and your daily duties as lessons, then so much can be learned from successes, failures and changes.

The Right Path to Real-World Learning

The major focus is on cooperative education. This focuses less one-on-one instruction and involves more team discussion on how everyone can work together for better comprehensive, quality care.

Students will be more engaged and active during training if the information is extremely up to date with real-life applications. It is important that resources are widely available—with an abundance of opportunities, so busy students can flow in and out of the curriculum easily.

Also, step outside of traditional learning methods. At Pathway Health, our professional development training is designed to meet the educational needs of our clients in the format that works best for them. We offer online, classroom and on-demand training, along with customized seminars.
