Focus on Improved Quality Performance

Screen Shot 2015-09-28 at 5.31.21 PMMy focus, both personally and professionally, has always been on the quality of human interaction! As off as it may seem, the quality of interaction is very closely connected to technology. These two polar forces can send objects or people flying in the wrong direction, or it can create an impossibly tight connection that is nearly unbreakable.

The dynamics of human interaction and technology is why I am so dedicated to steering post-acute organizations to continuously improve systems and properly implement technology to achieve success. In fact, I have spent years serving on state and national committees helping to bring technology to the forefront of the long-term care industry. As healthcare providers are making one of the largest transitions of operating practices, the implementation of ICD-10, leaders are identifying best practices to remain successful for the long-term.

”Within minutes of being born, most babies find themselves receiving the first four gifts of life: eye contact, a smile, a hug and some food. We receive many other gifts in a lifetime, but few ever surpass those first four.”

As a leader of Pathway Health, I am charged with steering our strategic growth while keeping an eye on how to continuously improve operational processes to exceed our clients’ expectations. By instilling an environment of continuous improvement, throughout the organization, every person understands how vital his or her role is in ensuring our ongoing success. Most importantly, their role in our clients’ success.

Three simple steps to operate a business successfully:

  1. Think Critically
Constant critical thinking is required to embrace new operating practices and technology, respond to our clients’ challenges and address changes in our industry. Being disciplined around involving your team in the “thinking” process allows for greater clarity regarding next steps and the right course of action.
  1. Calculate Risk
Every decision has an upside and downside potential…risk vs. reward. The lack of action is the only sure way to not achieving your goals. If you are a calculating leader, the chance of success should be much higher than the risk of failure. Weigh out your options and then move forward. Readjust along the way!
  1. Stay the Course
Every day is an opportunity to take a step further down the path to innovation and operational achievement. Continue on your planned course of action until it is finished or when you have reached a planned goal. Most importantly, implement readjustments to your plan, quickly. This will keep your forward momentum.

As you implement systems and processes for ongoing success, consider what key steps have the greatest impact on improving your organization’s quality performance.
