Medication Management and Avoiding Deficiencies in Long Term

F329 Unnecessary Medications is the #1 deficiency citation in the State of Minnesota.  It is important that facilities understand the regulations, guidelines and potential deficiencies surrounding medication management and the storage of biologicals. This course will review medication management systems and will provide recommendations, tools, and resources to effectively monitor and assess your residents for the use of psychotherapeutic medications. Along with medication management, this course will review the role of the consultant pharmacist and the storage of biologicals, which are often frequently cited deficiencies as well.

Course Objectives:

• Understand guidelines for medication management in skilled nursing facilities.
• Identify the components of a medication management system that would incorporate the various aspects of the federal regulations.
• Prioritize the components needed to develop and implement a medication management system.
• Develop an interdisciplinary team approach for addressing medication gradual dose reduction.
